Who is Livia Aghova?

Livia Agh comes from south Slovakia.

She gained her first stage experience in the National Theatre in Bratislava (Slovakia), where she performed a number of opera roles.

(Mozart´s Magic Flute - Pamina, Marriage of Figaro - Susanna, Puccini´s La Bohème - Mimi, Smetana´s Bartered Bride- Marenka, Janacek´s Cunning Little Vixen - Vixen, Bizet´s Carmen- Micaela).

After her studies she was awarded the first prize of ARD International Music Competition in Munich and the Prague Spring International Music Competition. Soon afterwards she was engaged as a soloist of the National Theatre in Prague (the Czech Republic).

In the National Theatre in Prague she performed some other roles – e.g. Julietta in opera Julietta by B. Martinu, Lauretta in Puccini´s Gianni Schicchi, Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte by Mozart, Jenůfa in Jenůfa by L. Janacek and Donna Elvira in Mozart´s Don Giovanni who was given as a guest performance on tours of the National Theatre in Japan.

 

She was nominated for the Thalia Award (a prize awarded by the Czech Actors´ Association) for the role of Sofia in the Night of the Rose by R. Strauss.

The stage of the State Opera House in Prague has seen her roles of Liu (Puccini´s Turandot) and Xenia (Dvorak´s Dimitrij) – the latter earned her the second nomination for the Thalia Award.

The singer has performed on prominent opera stages in Munich (Dimitrij), in Hamburg (The Capulets and the Montagues featuring A. Baltsa), in Berlin (Carmen, The Tales of Hoffmann), in Houston (Liu with E. Marton), in Toulouse (The Rhine Gold), in Venice (The Cunning Little Vixen´s Stories) as well as on well-known concert stages – Musikverein in Vienna, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Theatre de Champs- Elysées in Paris, Gasteig in Munich, Tonhalle in Zurich and Suntory Hall in Tokyo.

One of the last recordings featuring Livia Agh in the main role is an opera called Fate by L. Janacek (for the NHK TV company), which gained the Critics´ Prize for the best TV drama of the year in Japan. Her rich discography contains recordings of Dvorak´s Dimitrij, Jacobin, Saint Ludmila, Stabat Mater (Grand Prix de Disque prize), Spectre´s Bride (Deutsche Schallplattenkritikpreis prize), King and Collier, Janacek´s Fate and Glagolitic Mass, Mahler´s Symphony No. 2 and Der Tod Jesu cantata by C.H. Graun which was awarded the prestigious Echo Klassik prize.

Her recording of the King and Collier by A. Dvorak gained the MIDEM Classical Award in Cannes.

She was awarded the Gift of the Year Prize for her long-term fundraising activity in Slovakia.

Her last two recordings contain the Elves of Krinice Valley and

Missa Solemnis by a Czech composer Milos Bok.

Livia Agh also works as a vocal teacher at Jaroslav Jezek Conservatory in Prague.

She is often requested as a tutor of vocal courses and gives private classes as well.
